AHM First Friday: “Western Ways and Television” with Jennifer Jenkins

April 7, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

| $3

First Fridays BannerIn the 1930s, the nation was fascinated by all things “western,” and Charles and Lucile Herbert founded Western Ways Features to take advantage of that appetite. Jennifer Jenkins tells the story of Western Ways Features and its role in the invention of the Southwest of the Imagination. This talk will explore the Herberts’ move into television production at the abandoned Old Tucson site, a venture that led to a swindle, scandal, and the “fade to black” of Western Ways.

Jennifer Jenkins is Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, where she teaches film, literature, and archival studies in the Department of English and the School of Information. Dr. Jenkins has performed ground-breaking work developing and documenting digital archives of the Native peoples of the Americas, especially in the Arizona-Sonora borderlands.

Program included with admission to the museum. Discounted admission begins every Friday from 4-8pm. Must show valid Southern Arizona ID. Free validated parking available in the Main Gate garage.
